Q: Hello Matt, glad to have you with us today; could you briefly tell us about yourself and your background?

A: Glad to be here! I’m a 19 year old entrepreneur who runs 9 different YouTube channels. I got over a million subscribers on YouTube without even showing my face or recording any videos.

Q: What made you choose YouTube to begin with your digital marketing journey?

A: YouTube is where all the attention was at. You can get millions of organic views and YouTube will actually pay you for these views when you’re a part of the YouTube partner program by placing ads on your videos.

Q: As a young entrepreneur, what was your biggest challenge in starting your own business?

A: The biggest challenge was explaining to people what exactly it was I did. Most people don’t understand that YouTube can be an actual business. When I was in high school, my teachers would tell me that the only way to succeed in life was to go to college, so dealing with that pressure from society as a whole for what you’re supposed to do can be tough.

Q: How do you make videos go viral?

A: Having uploaded over 70 different videos with over 1 million views each, I can tell you the characteristics that almost all viral videos have in common. 90% of my most viral videos are all over 10 minutes long. Making videos longer than 10 minutes can lead to a higher average watch time which is one of the main factors YouTube looks at when ranking your videos. Also, most of those videos have over a 60% average view duration meaning that people on average watch 60% of those 10 minute videos. They key to increasing average view duration and therefore watch time is to keep the viewer hooked and include a lot of fast cuts throughout the video.

Q: You run 9 different YouTube channels, how do you find enough time to manage them all?

A: There’s no possible way I could run all 9 channels if I was producing all the content myself. The only way I’m able to do this is by hiring other people to make the videos for me. My team makes this whole thing possible!

Q: Could you tell us about your unique method of using YouTube to make a living without making any videos by yourself?

A: Yes, so the way it works is that I find people on places like Upwork.com to make the videos for me. I put together an assembly link for creating videos. One person does the script writing, another does the voice over, another does the video editing, and finally someone makes the thumbnail. Then, I simply have to come up with video ideas and upload and optimize the finished videos.

Q: How do you find the right people to make the videos for you?

A: The key is to have short term contracts with people so you can see the quality of their work before you hire them long term.

Q: You have been doing this for quite some time, are you a full time YouTube marketer now? What kind of results have you gotten doing this?

A: Yeah I’ve been doing this since 2014 when I was just 14 years old. I’ve since gotten over 1 million subscribers on a single channel earning me the gold play button from YouTube. I make over $1,000 a day from my channels from just ad revenue. Plus I’ve had a handful of videos get over 10 million views each.

Q: Can anyone do this? What if they don’t have anything to invest?

A: I’m nothing special and if a broke high schooler can do this then I truly believe anyone can. If you don’t have anything to invest in hiring content creators then you can simply produce the content yourself at first. That’s what I did and then I leveraged what I made doing it myself to hire others to do it for me.

Q: As you can see, there are hundreds of talented people trying to find success with their digital marketing efforts, what advice would you give them to get things started? Is now a good time to start on YouTube?

A: The most important thing is that you just get started. Now is the best time ever to get started on YouTube. Everyone is at home right now and YouTube viewership is up. Get started now and you’ll thank yourself that you did.
