Europe bets its AI sovereignty on a Milan startup most people have never heard of
The European Commission has selected Domyn, a Milan-based AI scale-up led by Albanian-Italian founder Uljan Sharka, to build Europe's sovereign open-source frontier AI model under the EUROPA consortium. The project will exceed 400 billion parameters, cover all 24 EU languages, and run on EuroHPC supercomputing infrastructure, with a one-year delivery target that raises serious questions about execution risk.
