Sony and Mitsubishi Electric are putting AI inside the sensor itself to rewire factory automation

Sony Semiconductor Solutions and Mitsubishi Electric have agreed to form Advanced Vision Solutions Co., Ltd., a joint venture launching in October 2026 to embed AI inference directly inside image sensors for factory automation. The deal combines Sony's on-chip AI sensor technology with Mitsubishi Electric's deep factory control expertise, arriving just as Nvidia moves aggressively into physical AI with Japanese industrial partners.
