Emerson Expands Automation Portfolio with Afag Feeding and Handling Solutions

Emerson has completed its integration of Afag, bringing the company's feeding and handling solutions under the AVENTICS brand to give OEMs a single source for machine automation components.

Afag is now officially part of Emerson. The acquisition, which builds on Emerson's broader strategy of consolidating its automation capabilities, means Afag's feeding and handling solutions will be fully integrated into Emerson's extensive automation portfolio. For original equipment manufacturers, this is a significant development. Rather than sourcing pneumatic components from one supplier and feeding systems from another, they can now access both through a single point of contact.

Starting October 15, 2024, all content on Afag.com, including product documentation, technical data, and certificates, will be migrated to Emerson.com under the AVENTICS brand. This migration is designed to streamline Emerson's comprehensive automation offerings, making it easier for OEMs to find the solutions they need in one location without navigating between separate platforms and catalogs.

The AVENTICS brand is globally recognized for its innovation and proven performance in pneumatic technology. By bringing Afag's feeding and handling products under the AVENTICS umbrella, OEMs will benefit from single-source access to a broader range of machine automation experts, as well as pneumatic and electric solutions that optimize the performance of new equipment designs. The combination makes a lot of sense from an engineering perspective. Feeding and handling systems are the logical upstream companions to pneumatic actuators and valves, and having both under one roof simplifies the design process considerably.

In the months following the migration, Emerson will gradually rebrand Afag's products under the AVENTICS line. While the brand name will change, the Afag product portfolio will remain consistent, ensuring OEMs continue to receive the high quality and support they have come to trust over the years. Customers will still be able to contact their existing representatives for ongoing assistance, which should ease the transition for companies concerned about disruptions to their supply chain or technical support relationships.

The legacy AVENTICS portfolio includes cylinders, valves, air preparation, and pressure technology. The newly incorporated Afag portfolio adds vibratory feeders, refilling devices, control units, linear and rotary axes, rotary modules, grippers, and more. Together, these product lines further strengthen Emerson's machine automation offering by covering both the motion control and the material handling sides of automated equipment design. It is the kind of breadth that allows an OEM to spec an entire machine line from a single supplier, reducing compatibility issues and simplifying procurement.

For Emerson, the integration fits into a larger pattern. The company has been steadily building out its automation capabilities through targeted acquisitions and portfolio consolidation, including its majority stake in AspenTech. The goal is straightforward: give manufacturers the tools to optimize operations, protect personnel, reduce emissions, and hit their sustainability targets, all while keeping the engineering process as efficient as possible.
