Israel approved a national AI program in June 2026, designating data centers as national infrastructure and targeting 10 AI factories per year. Then 27,000 megawatts of data center connection requests overwhelmed the grid, forcing regulators to freeze new approvals for 140 days. The ambition is real. The electricity isn't there yet.
