Meta's AI moderation system has been permanently banning Facebook and Instagram accounts, including family photos, fitness content, and business pages, by falsely flagging them as child sexual exploitation violations. The company's own Oversight Board says the process lacks due process, appeals are reviewed by the same automated systems that made the original error, and non-English speakers are disproportionately affected.
