Robinhood Chain hit 100 million transactions in three weeks but memecoins are running the show

Robinhood Chain crossed $700 million in onchain assets and 10 million daily transactions in its first three weeks, surpassing Base in daily active wallets. But the tokenized stocks it was built for account for just a fraction of activity , memecoins are doing the work, with CASHCAT and STONKBROKER leading DEX volume. The TVL concentration risk and the memecoin paradox raise real questions about what kind of chain this actually is.

Robinhood Chain hit 100 million transactions in three weeks but memecoins are running the show

Robinhood's Arbitrum-based L2 blockchain launched July 1, crossed $700 million in onchain assets within three weeks, and now processes 10 million transactions daily , but the tokenized stocks it was built for are a footnote to a memecoin frenzy nobody planned for.

The numbers are hard to argue with. Robinhood Chain, the Ethereum Layer 2 built on Arbitrum's Orbit stack, went live on July 1, 2026 and hit roughly 97 million cumulative successful transactions in its first three weeks, according to on-chain data. Daily transaction volume peaked at 10.4 million with block times of 100 milliseconds. TVL, which cleared $100 million within the first seven days, has since climbed past $430 million by The Block's count and may be approaching $500 million by broader measurements. Weekly active addresses topped 1 million. On daily active wallets, Robinhood Chain has now passed Base, the chain Coinbase launched in 2023.

Those are not small numbers. But they come with a story Robinhood didn't write.

Robinhood built this chain to bring tokenized real-world assets , stocks, ETFs, things you'd recognize from a brokerage statement , onto a public blockchain available to users across 120 countries. The pitch made sense: Robinhood has 24 million funded accounts, many of them retail investors who've never touched DeFi. A chain that abstracts the crypto rails and lets you hold Apple or Tesla shares onchain as collateral, earning yield through a Morpho lending vault, looked like a genuine bridge between traditional finance and decentralized finance.

That bridge exists. It's just not what most people are using. As CoinDesk reported in mid-July, tokenized real-world assets on Robinhood Chain amounted to roughly $12 to $17 million , a rounding error against the chain's total activity. What's actually happening is memecoins. CASHCAT, STONKBROKER (STONK), RICH, ROBIN, HOODDOG: the top movers on Dexscreener are Robinhood-themed tokens with names that read like a finance subreddit in carnival mode. Daily DEX trading volume went from $200,000 to over $500 million in the chain's first nine days, and it wasn't stocks moving the needle.

This is, frankly, a familiar pattern. When Coinbase launched Base in 2023 with a similar institutional pitch, meme coins carried it to scale before any serious RWA ecosystem materialized. Retail comes for the casino and sometimes stays for the bank. Robinhood may be betting the same thing happens here.

What the TVL number actually tells you

The $100 million TVL within seven days headline was real. The asterisk is equally real. As Yahoo Finance noted, roughly 90% of that early TVL came from a single source: Morpho's lending protocol, seeded primarily by a large Ethena vault. That concentration matters. By mid-July, Morpho alone accounted for around $133 million of total TVL, with Uniswap adding roughly $55 million. That's healthy protocol diversity eventually, but at launch it meant one protocol making one capital decision could have moved the entire metric. If Morpho's incentives shift or yields compress, the TVL impact won't be distributed , it'll land in one place.

The stablecoin picture is more encouraging. Stablecoin market cap on the chain has hit $439 million, up nearly 30% in a week as of late July, per Crypto Times. Stablecoins suggest real users intending to transact, not just whale capital parked for yield. And on active wallets, the chain's lead over Base and Polygon in daily users , 324,000 daily actives by the Artemis chart on July 21, against Base's 274,500 , is harder to fake than TVL.

The 10 million daily transactions at 100ms block times also deserves scrutiny. Some portion of high-frequency transaction counts on any new chain reflect bots, wash trading, or speculative memecoin flipping that won't last. But the wallet counts are trickier to inflate without a genuine user base, and a million weekly active addresses in two weeks is a real signal.

Here's the thing that still matters underneath all of it: no other brokerage has done this. Fidelity hasn't launched a chain. Schwab hasn't. The retail distribution Robinhood brings to crypto infrastructure , 24 million funded accounts who already have the app, already trust the brand, and don't need to understand Arbitrum to use it , is an asset no L2 team has been able to manufacture. Coinbase had the exchange distribution. Robinhood has something closer to a mass-market brand in the same way a bank does. Whether the tokenized stock use case catches up to the memecoin activity, or whether the memecoins simply fund the infrastructure until something more durable takes over, the chain itself is running. At 10 million transactions a day, it's not a proof of concept anymore.
