Ft. Lauderdale, FL: Captain Larry Brudnicki opens up with podcast host, Eric Rogell, and goes in depth on the dangerous and courageous rescues that took place during the infamous Perfect Storm that hit the northeastern US in 1991.

In the latest episode of “Eric Rogell Talks with Warriors, Lovers, Kings, and Heroes,” Captain Brudnicki was invited to talk about heroism and discuss how he made the difficult life and death decisions that resulted in the rescue of nearly a dozen people during the storm.

During the interview, Captain Brudnicki shares the harrowing details of the daring rescues he oversaw from the bridge of his Coast Guard cutter. Captain Brudnicki and his crew braved hurricane force winds and waves recorded at 100 feet tall, there’s no time to waste and decisions are seemingly impossible. “If I don’t do anything, people will die. If I attempt a rescue, more people may die,” said Brudnicki about one part of the rescue when members of his crew were swept into the water.

However, even though he was responsible for over 15,000 other search and rescue missions in his 30 year career, Captain Brudnicki initially turned down the offer to appear as a guest on the show, because he does not consider himself a hero.

“That’s the interesting thing,” Mr. Rogell notes, “most of the men I’ve spoken to and invited on the show, don’t see themselves heroes. They see their actions as coming from commitment, duty, honor, courage, love. Because they operate from there, they see it as just how they are day to day. Being a hero doesn’t cross their minds.”
